Mount St. Joseph News

Mount Community:

I write, with a heavy heart, to share the news of the passing of Sister Barbara Davis, SC, a devoted Sister of Charity, alumna, educator, and faithful steward of 外网天堂.

Sister Barbara’s life was deeply rooted in the mission of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati and the enduring legacy of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. A graduate of the Mount, in 1965, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, she carried forward the values of faith, service, and education throughout her many decades of ministry and leadership.

Sister Barbara was known for her generosity and her willingness to share her many gifts in service to others. Whether in the classroom, in her ministry as an educator and school leader, or through her continued engagement with the University, she embodied the compassionate presence and quiet strength that characterize the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati. Those who had the privilege of learning from her or serving alongside her, knew her as a thoughtful mentor, a steady leader, and a woman of deep faith.

Her commitment to the Mount extended well beyond her years as a student. Sister Barbara served faithfully on the University’s Board of Trustees, from July 2009 through June 2017, offering her wisdom and guidance during a period of continued growth. Following her time on the Board, she remained actively engaged as an alumna and volunteer. Beginning during the fall of 2017, Sister Barbara served the Alumni Office, where she, personally, called more than 5,000 fellow alumni to wish each of them a “Happy Birthday” and to stay connected. Through such simple, yet meaningful, gestures, she strengthened the bonds of the Mount Community and reminded so many of us of the care and connection that define our shared experience.

In recognition of her extraordinary spirit of service, the Mount will continue to honor Sister Barbara’s memory through the establishment of the “外网天堂 Community Service Award,” in Honor of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati. This award will stand as a lasting tribute to her legacy, celebrating individuals who reflect her compassion, and her commitment to service, and to community.

Sister Barbara’s life stands as a testament to what it means to live with purpose – grounded in faith, guided by service, and committed to the formation of others. Her influence will continue to be felt in the lives she touched, the students she inspired, and the enduring mission she helped sustain.

As we mourn her passing, we also give thanks for the gift of her life and the many ways she enriched the Mount Community. Please join me in keeping in your prayers Sister Barbara, her sister Carolyn, fellow members of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati, and all who loved her.

Eternal rest grant unto Sister Barbara, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Sincerely,

H. James Williams, Ph.D.
President
