Former 外网天堂 Coach and Athletic Director Jean Dowell, who served the institution from 1970 to 1994, has authored a new book titled "Early History of 外网天堂 Athletics, 1969-1994.”
Hitting a , the book details several important histories, including championships, how the Mount became known for its physical education program, the graduates who went on to enjoy coaching careers, and the beginnings of men’s athletics, including its first football victory.
An accomplished musician and former high school basketball star, Dowell spent years interviewing key figures to preserve this history, hoping to inspire readers with the stories of the MSJ athletes and administrators who built the foundation for the school's winning tradition. She was encouraged to write the book by her colleague Pat Shibinski, who dedicated 42 years to the Mount as a coach and faculty member.
“I met Coach Dowell in 1983, when I first came to the Mount,” says Chief Science Officer of cITe and Entomologist, Dr. Gene Kritsky, Ph.D. “And I quickly realized, she was not only a great coach, but an excellent educator. Her book documents the many successes the Mount’s athletic teams enjoyed during those early years.”
Dowell hopes the preserved stories of championships and pioneers inspire current and future members of the Mount Community, reminding everyone of the dedication and bold spirit that first built the Mount's athletic greatness.
